Abstract

This paper proposes a small-scale standalone wind power system for rural and remote areas electrification. The presented system is composed of a wind turbine, a permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG), a diode bridge rectifier, two buck converters (one for optimizing the wind power system generation and the other to satisfy load electrical requirements), a battery bank, and a variable load. The analysis is focused on low-cost and effective maximum power point tracking (MPPT) of the wind power system while satisfying the load requirements and ensuring battery protection.
