Abstract

In any spectral domain, the appeal of FTS results from the high resolution available for modest dimensions, the wavelength accuracy, and the simultaneous acquisition of a broad spectral range of data. However, for reasons related to the limiting noise, the "multiplex advantage" enjoyed in the infrared is degraded in the UV/visible to the extent of becoming a "multiplex (or Fourier) disadvantage" for certain combinations of noise source, spectral peak intensity, and spectral density.1
