Abstract
The combination of photovoltaics (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS) offers a viable solution for improving distribution network reliability due to their favorable operating efficiencies. To realize considerable economic benefits, PV units and BESS need to be incorporated into distribution networks in a way that takes advantage of location and capacity. In this paper, the photovoltaic (PV) and BESS system is integrated into IEEE 33 bus radial distribution system (RDS) to minimize the annual active power loss and the net system annual cost. Two objective functions are formulated as a multi-objective problem, which is solved by the novel Dragonfly algorithm (DA). Yearly load and PV data are considered for simulation. The simulation is done for one year. To analyze the effectiveness of the proposed system, two days of a year are compared for analysis, one day from summer and the other from winter respectively. Significant improvement can be noticed from the result analysis.
