Abstract

This paper presents a novel concept of artificial bias to incorporate partial automation to dynamically assist pilots to avoid incoming heat seeking missiles while maneuvering their jet fighters in a mission. In this endeavor, the pilot will have complete control of the aircraft, and the evasive maneuvering procedure will push the aircraft away from the current path of the aircraft only when there is imminent collision. The artificial bias algorithm is presented, and computer simulations for missile avoidance are presented in various situations. The theoretical limitation of this algorithm is also presented in terms of the maneuverability of the aircraft vs that of a missile, and the number of missiles an aircraft is facing.
