The indices obtained from the statistical analysis of the historical data of the events occurred in the life of the power system has been directly related to the reliability of the supply as well as to the total value of unsupplied energy from failure. Abstract

Reliability assessment is seen as a vital tool in the planning and design of all electric power systems. Reliability assessment tools can be employed for various reasons, such as the calculating of investment windows, for the ranking of alternative designs or for locating weak points in the system.
