Abstract
Special Machines are gaining momentum in high performance drives. Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drives are widely employed to take advantage of its distinctive characteristics such as increased efficiency, improved power factor, comparatively lower inertia, high power density and larger torque to volume ratio. To integrate with renewable resources there are many recent inverter topologies. One such topology is popular Impedance Source Inverter (ZSI). ZSI uses a combination of capacitors and inductors (Z-Source network) followed by a conventional VSI. Because of its unique structure, ZSI reduces line harmonics, increases reliability, improves power factor and extends output voltage range. This paper attempts to analyze closed loop performance of conventional ZSI fed PMSM drive with classical FOC with different modulation schemes for pumping applications. Mathematical model of the pump is formulated and its performance is analyzed during simulation. Characteristic curve of centrifugal pump is validated using simulation results obtained.
