Abstract

In this paper, Gauss-type pulses are used to detect the layered structure of the lunar regolith. And the thickness of regolith can be obtained by the digital elevation model (DEM) of lunar. The lunar regolith is divided into three layers. Meanwhile, every layer has a different volume fraction of rock scatterers. The Muller matrix solution containing surface scattering and volume scattering is derived. For the layered structure of the lunar surface, based on the vector radiative transfer (VRT) model, the incident wave intensity and different layered structures of lunar regolith were simulated, and the relationship between the volume fraction and layer thickness and echo intensity was analyzed.
