A Study on Changing Work Environment in Manufacturing Industries and its Impact on Employees’ Private Life and Productivity in Work Place

Abstract

The focus of this study is identity change – how we adapt our personality and behaviour as we make the shift from home to the workplace. It seems the majority of us are comfortable with the idea of maintaining separate work and private identities. But for some, the switch is so complete as to cause real tensions, and to have a detrimental effect on their satisfaction and performance both at work and at home. This study strives to raise the discussion a level above the usual work–life balance debates around time devoted to work and private lives – and brings a fresh perspective on a subject that is close to our hearts. Our goal is to make balancing the demands – and rewards – of people's work and private lives as simple as possible through technology. But we are also aware that modern communications technology has the ability to invade and encroach, as well as to involve and empower. This study will go some way to building our understanding of people's needs and expectations as the modern workplace evolves to become more open and flexible.
