Abstract

This paper presents results of the application of the damped Nyquist plot (DNP) to determine the gain and phase compensation of a power system stabilizer (PSS). The DNP is an open-loop frequency response design method with an embedded capability of allocating a complex pole pair of the closed loop system. The PSS tuning is performed on a two–bus synthetic power system model whose results are validated against detailed multigenerator power plant models, thus emphasizing the advantages of using the DNP method together with the synthetic system to perform a PSS tuning in practice.
