Abstract
Background and Context for Parents: Social movements happen to encourage changes in our societies that people deem unequal or inequitable. The purpose of social movements are to call attention to the things that need changing and/or to level the playing field while gradual change happens. In the following lessons students will examine five social movements of the 20th and 21st century that shaped US society.
