Rats with cirrhosis of the liver show a decrease in cholesterol, phospholipid and protein content, without changes in cholesterol/phospholipid molar ratio. In addition there is a small decrease in 14:0 and 18:2 and an increase in 20:4 content, without differences in unsaturation degree. Membrane fluidity was decreased in renal membranes from cirrhotic rats when compared with normal ones.
