Abstract

Summary form only given. A potential problem inherent in the sheet beam geometry is the proximity of competing high-order modes in the same frequency band, with longitudinal and/or transverse fields. Each can lead to instability, with the potential for beam disruption. We present results of our analysis to determine the mode structures and impedance in each case, for realistic device dimensions. We also present a scheme to implement efficient input/output coupling for this structure.
