Abstract

Being the most prominent consumer of electricity, electrical machines need intensive care against faults during operation. The majority of faults are degenerative in nature and need to be detected at the incipient stage to avoid any catastrophic situation. In this paper, the geometrical structure of an industrial squirrel cage induction motor is first revealed for simulation purposes. The simulations are done in a finite element method (FEM) based environment to study the behaviors of the motor under healthy and faulty conditions. A test rig is then prepared for the comparison of various parameters taken from simulation and practical setups for broken rotor bar case.
