Abstract

This study focuses on six microalgae cultivated in open ponds in the Midwest Region of Brazil. Microalgae are a promising biomass source for biofuels, and this work evaluates their growth rates, lipid content, and fatty acid profiles. It is highlighted that Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata exhibits the highest growth rate (μmax), while Coelastrum sp. and P. subcapitata show the highest lipid levels. Palmitic acid is the main fatty acid accumulated in these microalgae. The study also analyzes factors influencing the outcomes of open pond cultivation.
