Kuasa Perempuan Bali: Peran dan Kapasitas Perempuan Bali dalam Menghadapi Erupsi Gunung Agung

Abstract

Data from the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) states that women have a 14 times higher risk of becoming disaster victims than adult men. This is due to the instinct of women wanting to protect their families and children, which often makes them neglect their safety. This article aims to reveal the readiness of women in Besakih Village to face the eruption of Mount Agung in Karangasem Regency, Bali. Through ethnographic methods with data collection techniques such as participant observation, in-depth interviews, and literature studies, this study found several potentials of Balinese women when facing disasters. Balinese women who are independent, tough, and adaptive are key to survive in disaster situations. In addition, women from Besakih Village claimed to actively seek information about the Mount Agung disaster through social media, such as Facebook and WhatsApp, as a form of self-2. Research recommendations are directed at the need to increase skills for women living in disaster-prone areas on the island of Bali in order to remain economically and socially empowered. Some of the training materials include recognizing the early symptoms of a disaster, finding accurate disaster information through social media or online news portals, and increasing women's capacity through post-disaster economic empowerment.
