Abstract

Burst loss ratio is the important factor in Optical Burst switching (OBS) networks. When the burst entering the source node, finds the server free it reserves the server and gets transmitted immediately. In case that the server is blocked, the incoming burst waits in the buffer available in the source node of the selected pair and tries retransmission till it reaches the destination successfully. In this paper, we studied a method which combines buffering and retransmission to resolve contention and the effect of maintenance activity and buffer search of the server on the bursts being handled (processed) in the network.
