Abstract

A computational model of visual motion discrimination in the human visual system is being developed, with application to interpretation of moving light displays. The author provides an overview of the current state of the model and discusses ideas that are being pursued. The computational model incorporates bottom-up feature computation, scenario indexing, and top-down contextual information flow. Emphasis is on the intermediate and higher-level visual processes, assuming the work of others for the low-level processes. The nature of memory structures devoted to representation and recognition of visual motion sequences is explored.<>
