Abstract
Energy consumption and electrical bandwidth of reverse-biased optical modulators are studied numerically. Tradeoffs for bandwidth versus energy consumption as well as electrical versus optical and intrinsic versus extrinsic energy consumption are investigated. Enhancement of bandwidth-energy consumption tradeoff using a slow light structure is presented.
