Abstract

Cost and reliability reasons lead to motion sensorless control of high speed PMSM drives. This paper introduces a novel emf based observer for rotor position and speed estimation that provides very fast starting from pre-produced zero initial position (less than 100 milliseconds from zero to 10 krpm in a 750 W surface PMSM) with very good dynamics response to large step torque perturbations. Implementations and test results fully validate the proposed control solution.
