These works were collected under the personal direction of Monsieur Jean Guifïrey, Conservateur au Louvre, Paris. Great difficulty was experienced in getting together a representative xhibition, as war had been declared, the artists were at the front and where it was impossible to obtain permission, studios were broken into and the pictures taken. However, the exhibition as a whole gives a very fair idea of contemporary artistic activity and achievement in France and Belgium. The Exhibition is arranged to excellent effect, in six galleries of the Museum. Gallery VI. is, however, the lodestone.
