Abstract
Over the last 20 years in veterinary medicine there has been increasing recognition that surgery causes pain and, therefore, animals undergoing surgery require analgesia. This chapter describes the general approach to the administration of analgesic agents to surgical patients, and discusses clinically appropriate analgesia protocols for routine surgical procedures.
