Abstract
At present times, the Electricity Company supplies LCD-type Electrical Energy Meters (LCDEM), and mount them on the outdoor panels. The users cannot time-to-time monitor the consumed energy units to asses that the consumption is exceeding their budget, and they should be aware to shut off the unnecessary loads. A `Bright Display Energy Meter (BDEM)', when fitted indoor, will aware the consumers for conservative use of electricity as they can now view the readings of the meter. The users are psychologically motivated to control their consumptions; as a result, they save energy, pay less bill and help the nation like Bangladesh to mitigate electricity crisis. This paper has presented the design and development procedures of a BDEM using an `ATmega8 Microcontroller.' The meter has been prototyped, tested and found to work as per specifications.
