Abstract

The paper proposes an innovative maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique applied to the control of a wave attenuator, therefore combining this function with the wave energy conversion. First, the dynamic model is described, focusing on the main parameters involved in the heave motion characterization. Then, its implementation in a Matlab/Simulink® code and the proposed control strategy are presented from both a theoretical and a computational point of view. Finally, the results of the simulations, executed with an optimal tuning of the control parameters in presence of irregular wave patterns, are reported to highlight its performance in realistic environmental conditions.
