Abstract

This paper applies the novel partitioned stator (PS) permanent magnet (PM) (PSPM) machines to hybrid and electric vehicle (HEV/EV) applications. A globally optimized PSPM machine having the same overall dimensions as the Prius2010 interior-PM (IPM) machine is presented. It shows that the PSPM machine can exhibit larger torque density, better flux-weakening capability, as well as higher efficiency.
