Abstract

The main objective of Universal Design is to take care of the disadvantaged groups and take the usage and needs of ordinary people into account in order to achieve the nationwide design. Universal Design courses usually focus on experiencing different disadvantaged groups. In the learning process, due to the different experiential leaders, different problems would be found. This would further affect the design achievements and learning effects. This study included two types of leaders in experiential learning of Universal Design. One was the experience designed by students and another one is the experience led by experts. Through the 10 experiential courses and questionnaire survey, the difference between the different leaders would be found. The result showed that the satisfaction of expert-led experience has been higher than that designed by students, but the difference is not much. Learners from both experiential learnings could have a deeper understanding of disadvantaged groups, for which this would inspire people to improve their lives. In the learning process, experiential activities were the best way for students learning how to understand the disadvantaged and carry out universal design.
