Abstract
This paper studies the evolution and modulation of "mediating objects'" use in industrial design since the introduction of CAD (Computer Aided Design) tools. These tools have generally been studied for their pros and cons inside the design process, and always in comparison with more "traditional" tools (freehand sketches or physical models) [9; 5]. The paper suggests rather to consider these mediating tools' complementarities, that can sometimes occur very early inside the design process (since ideation). The theoretical bases that structure the whole intervention are presented and discussed given this suggestion, as well as the in situ intervention's main results. The new professional work-habits are objectivised.
