Collective Case Decisions Without Voting

Abstract

Adaptive case management is primarily about cases that involve multiple people collaborating to achieve a common goal. In cases where progress depends upon participation of volunteers, it is important to make decisions that are in alignment with everyone. Voting as a way of making decisions has some well known flaws. Cases which depend upon volunteers will need to be run in a fashion that assures that every participant is on board. If not, the case manager will find it impossible to complete the case. Sociocracy is a formal method for running an organization based on sociological principles designed to uncover the best decisions and to keep everyone involve. An online system designed to support a sociocratic organization called Weaver is introduced with a focus on how to support organizational decision making behavior without using voting.
