In the end, economics is concerned with how people maximize their objectives subject to the constraints that they face. This is the case whatever the person’s setting or objectives. This chapter brings together the themes of the book under the umbrella of economic thought. It also discusses advances in the methodology that has driven economic research to new heights in recent decades. As economic thinking grows, it is important that we consider from where it has come, as well as where it may be headed next.
