Expanding DevOps Principles and Best Practices Based on Practical View

Abstract

DevOps is a change in mindset for disjoint teams including development, deployment and operational management. DevOps principles and practices comes with great advantages such as supporting higher resilience; elasticity; improve performance associated with distributed environment; and speed up delivery processes. Despite the great advantages of DevOps and its promising future, it is agreed that the knowledge around it is scattered across different sources. Several attempts have been done to define DevOps but still there is lack of worldwide agreed definition of DevOps and, in addition, its principles and best practices are not unified; and few are explained based on a narrow context. In this paper, we present a unified view of DevOps's principles and practice. We also update and expand the definitions of most current principles and best practices by considering our practical experience within organizations.
