Abstract

The paper describes the morphological structure in different parts of XLPE high voltage cables. High voltage cable specimens were tested before and after thermal ageing using a scanning electron microscope. It was found that the morphological structure of the tested samples was variable in different parts of the cable and the morphology was becoming less crystalline farther from the cable conductor. The thermal ageing reduces the formation of the crystallinity of the cable insulation.
