Abstract

The effects of human parathyroid hormone (hPTH 1-34) and calcitonin on Ca2+ transport in resting and KCl-depolarized cultured cells of rat striatum were studied. The results showed that in resting cells PTH significantly increased both Ca2+ uptake and efflux, while calcitonin had no effect on either. In KCl-depolarized cells the Ca2+ uptake was increased by PTH and reduced by calcitonin, and the effluxes were reduced by both PTH and calcitonin.
