An online survey was conducted to determine which activities viewers perform when they use their smartphone to interact with TV, how they perform these activities, and why they choose to use their smartphone over their remote. Results reveal that the most popular activities are considered easier to complete on a smartphone than with a remote. Our findings outline these activities and provide a discussion on how the experience of smartphone control of TV can be improved.
