Abstract
Computer aided software engineering (CASE) tools for supporting the mechanization of telecommunication systems specification and development in a real-time environment are discussed. The authors focus on the methodology, which includes the processes and procedures for the telecommunication system development life cycle model. In this model each individual phase is modeled and prototyped. The customer's feedback is always required for verification. The development takes place on an interactive basis. The proposed methodology and tools provide a homogeneous solution for: (a) specifying the functions expected of the systems; (b) transforming the specifications into graphical representations; (c) designing the software; (d) checking that the design complies fully with the specification; (e) automated code generation; and (f) managing specification-design-code traceability through all modifications and updates. Analyzing program complexity and quality is also feasible through complexity and quality matrixes.<>
