Abstract
Chatter is one of the crucial factors affecting the quality of machining. In severe cases, chatter can reduce productivity and cause huge economic losses. A chatter detection index based on the wavelet packet energy entropy (WPEE) is put forward in this paper. To determine the feasibility of the index, the acceleration sensor is used to obtain the vibration signal of machining. Four tests that can be separated into two parts (stable and chatter) are selected to discuss. The results demonstrate that the proposed index can effectively distinguish chatter phenomenon in the milling process.
