Abstract

The model and methodology presented should prove useful in assessing whether an expert system is ready for deployment. The criteria provided by this model are important factors in considering proper expert system institutionalization. These factors should be considered when planning the expert system's development. For example, the skills of the person or group performing the maintenance of the expert system may affect the selection and ease of use of the expert system shell, if applicable. Additionally, if a shell is used, distribution issues of the expert system should be considered up front in terms of the costs of run-time licenses and other related considerations.<>
