Abstract
In this paper a fully passive, compact and polarization independent chipless RFID tag with high bit capacity is presented. The proposed tag is constructed using L-shaped open loop resonators of variable lengths. It is modeled upon a thin 0.8 mm substrate with an area of 1.7 × 1.7 cm2. The tag can encode 16-bits in a frequency range 4.5-8 GHz with a very high bit density of 5.5 bits/cm2. It also has an improved spectral bit efficiency of 4.57 bits/GHz. RCS response of the tag is also independent of incident wave polarization. The tag’s attractive features such as compact size, orientation independence, high code density and large spectral efficiency make it a good candidate for various product identification scenarios.
