Abstract
Companies have become increasingly concerned with creating a satisfying and productive work environment; on the other hand, there are many situations unpleasant that prevent this event, one there is the motivation. Scientifically, many works explore the motivating working conditions, but not many, elucidating aspects of the motivation, which is a curse, both for companies, how to employees. Aiming at exploring the determinants of motivation, this article was based on an exploratory and qualitative research through content analysis, counting with items arising from the theory, as in items from an empirical research carried out in a metallurgical company in southern Brazil. The results indicate be ten determinants of motivation at work: unsatisfactory salary, lack of recognition, poor leadership, job insecurity, activity overload, bad working environment, repetitive work, peer relationships, lack of benefits and lack of approach with the direction. The four cited determinants latter were not addressed by the researched theory, these being findings the innovation of this work. The main limitation is the amount of items; supposedly there are others, not highlighted here. The results contribute to a subject still little explored.
