Exploring the role of digital innovation hubs in socioeconomic development

Abstract

Digital technologies and innovations in particular, are amongst the most trending topics in IS research. ICT, in its near-ubiquitous nature is now a part of our everyday lives widely regarded as a de facto enabler of socio-economic transformation. In this knowledge economy, there is a need for all communities to adopt and adapt to digital platforms. One strategic aspect for the proliferation of digital technologies is through digital innovation hubs. This paper explores digital innovation hubs in different social contexts based on an extensive range of literature. This has important implications to inciting constructive debate on the role of digital innovation hubs in socio-economic development and draws attention to the prospects of future work espoused in a holistic research framework for measuring the actual impact of digital innovation hubs.
