Abstract

NOX emissions are a health hazard, and are increasingly regulated in cars. NOx also contributes to the formation of acid rain and the eutrophication of ecosystems. Nitrogen oxides are a family of molecules including nitrogen monoxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2). These gases are formed in the engine during high-temperature fuel combustion, and play a role in the formation of fine particles in ambient air.
