Abstract

Every person should be able to access water since it is one of the most fundamental needs for maintaining life. The process, referred to as renewable energy-based desalination, is gaining more importance over other desalination methods since it looks to be a promising technology for low-cost desalination that can support sustainable growth. This is particularly important because energy consumption is much higher in other water purification processes. This paper describes the enhanced yield and competence through experiments performed on two different modified conditions in solar still. For experimentation, a 1m2 area of the basin is fabricated in which a stepped absorber is installed over which corrugated fins are attached. The G.I. sheet is used as a material to manufacture it. The vacuum tube of 55mm outer diameter, 45 mm inner diameter and 1800mm long is used. The experimentation is performed to evaluate the cumulative yield and competence in Case-1, i.e., the inclined solar still with corrugated fins and stepped absorber. In Case-2, the same configuration is combined with vacuum tubes. From experimentation, the cumulative yield obtained for Case:2 is 4.7 kg/m 2 per day, which is higher than that obtained for Case:1, i.e., 3.82 kg/m 2 per day. The solar efficiency was also determined to be 46.72% in Case-2 and 39.98% in Case-1. This indicates that the combined configuration of solar still with vacuum tubes produced 23.0% higher fresh output than the configuration without vacuum tubes. According to these findings, the functionality of the solar still has seen substantial development in Case-2. Overall, the results demonstrate that using vacuum tubes with inclined solar still having stepped absorber and corrugated fin configuration can significantly improve its productivity and efficiency .

The International Journal of Renewable Energy Research (IJRER) is not a for profit organisation. IJRER is a quarterly published, open source journal and operates an online submission with the peer review system allowing authors to submit articles online and track their progress via its web interface. IJRER seeks to promote and disseminate knowledge of the various topics and technologies of renewable (green) energy resources. The journal aims to present to the international community important results of work in the fields of renewable energy research, development, application or design. The journal also aims to help researchers, scientists, manufacturers, institutions, world agencies, societies, etc. to keep up with new developments in theory and applications and to provide alternative energy solutions to current issues such as the greenhouse effect, sustainable and clean energy issues.
