Abstract

Language production is a developmental stage whose delay in acquisition often causes great concern to parents, and requests for assessment appear increasingly early and numerous. This phenomenon appears even more pronounced for bilingual children in whom not only families but also the contexts in which they are included often cause alarm. One goal of this article is to create a space for reflection on the timing of intervention and expected language development in monolingual and bilingual children. We will start with the definitions of Primary Language Disorder (PDL), bilingualism, and what may be false beliefs that are increasingly ingrained in common thinking.
