Abstract

The strategy of balancing great powers is a long-standing diplomatic strategy by ASEAN countries. By implementing the "strategy of balancing great powers," ASEAN has gained a voice in international affairs in Southeast Asia, maintained regional stability and development in Southeast Asia, and has become the central player in the region. However, with the intensification of competition between China and the United States in recent years, ASEAN's "strategy of balancing great powers" is facing challenges. Therefore, this paper will start with an introduction to ASEAN's strategy of balancing great powers, discuss the challenges faced by ASEAN's strategy of balancing great powers under the backdrop of China-US competition, and explore how ASEAN can continue to maintain its strategy of balancing great powers to adapt to the new international environment in the future.
