By drawing on assessment tools and guidelines and patient preferences in combination with patient education, stoma care nurses can help patients identify and correctly use the most appropriate accessories for them. Abstract
Stoma care is complex and challenging and can result in complications that can cause psychological distress and negatively impact ostomates’ quality of life. These include appliance leakage, contact dermatitis, mucocutaneous separation and parastomal herniation.
