Causal association of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder and autism spectrum disorder with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Two-sample Mendelian randomization analyses were employed to explore the bidirectional causal relationships between ADHD/ASD and PTSD.</p><p><strong>Results: </strong>The results of the genetic correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations of PTSD with ADHD(r g  = 0.70) and ASD (r g  = 0.34). Furthermore, the Mendelian randomization analysis revealed that genetic liabilities to ADHD [odds ratio (OR) = 1.14; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.06-1.24; P  = 7.88 × 10 -4 ] and ASD (OR = 1.04; CI, 1.01-1.08; P  = 0.014) were associated with an increased risk of developing PTSD later in life.
