Abstract
The seismic response of a basement column consisting of an RC frame with carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) reinforcement was investigated in this work. A computer model was created to simulate the installation of CFRP sheathing on multistory RC structures’ ground floor column system. A comprehensive FE model of the buildings was created using ETABS, a commercial application. External bonded FRP strengthening techniques are applied when reinforcing the failing beam and column with a CFRP sheet. Nonlinear time-history analysis was utilized to analyze seismic performance as part of the structural seismic research. It is possible to agree on four distinct structural models: The performance of frames with lower-level CFRP sheet-reinforced columns and no shear walls was tested during the Irpinia-Basilicata, Loma Prieta, and Kobe earthquakes. The primary parametric research involves determining the CFRP sheets' thickness to reinforce the columns at each lower level in an entire warping arrangement. As part of this research, CFRP sheets ranging in thickness from 1 to 7 mm can be examined. The results show that using CFRP improves the seismic performance of RC structures, as assessed by a decrease in maximum and residual displacements.

The Asian Journal of Civil Engineering (Building and Housing) welcomes articles and research contributions on topics such as:- Structural analysis and design - Earthquake and structural engineering - New building materials and concrete technology - Sustainable building and energy conservation - Housing and planning - Construction management - Optimal design of structuresPlease note that the journal will not accept papers in the area of hydraulic or geotechnical engineering, traffic/transportation or road making engineering, and on materials relevant to non-structural buildings, e.g. materials for road making and asphalt. Although the journal will publish authoritative papers on theoretical and experimental research works and advanced applications, it may also feature, when appropriate: a) tutorial survey type papers reviewing some fields of civil engineering; b) short communications and research notes; c) book reviews and conference announcements.
