Abstract
Blockchain technology emerged in 2008 with the introduction of its first application: a digital distributed payment system known as the Bitcoin network.1 At that time, blockchain was a groundbreaking innovation that ingeniously combined existing technologies and features such as encryption, distributed computing, and digital signatures.
