Abstract

The important problem of the flow through a star-shaped crack is studied. Both clear and porous medium-filled ducts are solved for the first time. An accurate modified Ritz method is used to accommodate concave sharp corners. Flow rates and Poiseuille numbers are determined for star ducts with 2–6 pointy branches. Asymptotic approximations and corner singularities are discussed.

Moreover, porous medium deformations can be induced by the transport phenomena, by chemical and electro-chemical activities such as swelling, or by external loading through forces and displacements. These porous media phenomena may be studied by researchers from various areas of physics, chemistry, biology, natural or materials science, and engineering (chemical, civil, agricultural, petroleum, environmental, electrical, and mechanical engineering).
