Abstract

Bacterial infections in patients with cirrhosis lead to a 4-fold increase in mortality. Immune dysfunction in cirrhosis further increases the risk of bacterial infections, in addition to alterations in the gut microbiome, which increase the risk of pathogenic bacteria.
