Abstract

In this letter, a new reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-based reflection pattern modulation (RPM) and power distribution index modulation (PIM) scheme named RIS-RPM-PIM is proposed. In the proposed scheme, on one hand, reflection pattern modulation and power distribution IM on RIS are used to improve the spectral efficiency, on the other hand, signature constellations are designed to maximize the Euclidean distance of the symbol constellation. Simulations and theoretical analysis show that the RIS-RPM-PIM scheme achieves superior bit error rate (BER) performance than the reference HRM scheme.

IEEE Wireless Communications Letters publishes short papers in a rapid publication cycle on advances in the state-of-the-art of wireless communications. Both theoretical contributions (including new techniques, concepts, and analyses) and practical contributions (including system experiments and prototypes, and new applications) are encouraged. This journal focuses on the physical layer and the link layer of wireless communication systems.
