Abstract

Amid the speculations that another Trump presidency will bring anti-science, anti-medicine policies, we looked back at the previous Trump administration. There was some of this, especially related to COVID. The federal workforce, especially at the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, was decimated. It took more than a couple years to set things straight again. But the people in the trenches – the treatment programs, the street outreach workers, the clinicians who dedicate their lives to helping people with substance use disorders – were not affected by what happened in elections. They kept working to help patients and all who needed help. And they will still be there.
